DONNA HOWELL-SICKLES

Growing up on a Texas ranch near the Red River, Donna Howell-Sickles developed an early affinity for nature, animals, and the American West. After earning a BFA in painting and drawing from Texas Tech University, she found her muse in a vintage postcard depicting a cowgirl with the words, “Greetings from a Real Cowgirl from the Ole Southwest.”

For over forty years, Howell-Sickles has explored the images, spirit, and myth of the American West through her nationally recognized, distinctive artwork. Her vibrant paintings, often featuring spirited cowgirls, are held in numerous museum collections, including the Booth Museum of Western Art, the Tucson Museum of Art, and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

Howell-Sickles has won numerous awards in invitational museum shows, and her work has been featured in a variety of publications on Western art. She has also been the focus of solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Steamboat Art Museum, the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, and the Booth Museum of Western Art. In 2007, she was inducted into the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, and in 2011, Southwest Art magazine named her one of the forty most prominent figures in the Western art world.

She is represented by Ann Korologos Gallery (Aspen, Colorado), Medicine Man Gallery (Tucson, Arizona), and Davis and Blevins Gallery (Saint Jo, Texas).
