Get Crafty for Día de los Muertos!
Drop in for a fun and FREE sugar skull painting activity led by local artist Renee Latapi-Gamez. Take a break and get creative with 4” X 4” canvases as you learn how to paint your own sugar skull to take home! Make your masterpiece while you wait for your Pinata Class session or come paint after your session. You can leave your masterpiece to dry while you explore the museum.

Join us for a special Piñata class with local artist Adriana Gamez as she guides participants in creating vibrant sugar skull piñatas. Along the way, you’ll learn cultural insights and crafting techniques.
All supplies are included.

After losing their star player, a high school basketball team rooted in Native American culture must unite to keep their state championship dreams alive.
The Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Native Film Series showcases a selection of unique films that feature original and diverse indigenous stories. Guests will get a deeper look into life in the Southwest in conjunction with our latest exhibit Storytellers: Narrative Art & the West.
All films were directed, written, produced by, and/or star Native Americans.
🎟 The film is included with general museum admission and FREE for museum members.
Local community activist Matthew Davila (Standing Rock Dakota) curated the series and will lead a short presentation before each film.

Join us for an exciting day of Western tradition at the Briscoe Western Art Museum’s exclusive member event, Briscoe at the Rodeo, which will be held at Tejas Rodeo on Saturday, October 19! Celebrate the spirit of the West and Briscoe’s birthday with a fun evening packed with thrilling rodeo action and modern cowboys keeping the legacy alive.
Members will receive free swag and enjoy reserved seating close to the rodeo action. Gates open at 5:00 PM, with the pre-show beginning at 7:00 PM. Watch performances like bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, and more, with fun for all ages—including mutton bustin’ for the little ones and an adult calf scramble.
After the rodeo, dance the night away with live music from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Bring the whole family—kids under 2 attend free! Don’t miss this special Briscoe member thank you event as we celebrate western heritage and modern-day cowboy culture.

Open to the public on October 4, 2024, Storytellers explores the various ways artists have told stories about the Southwest in their work, including illustrations of historic events such as Diego Romero’s images of the Pueblo Revolt, and paintings of local religious ceremonies a la Henderson’s Holy Week in New Mexico, ruminations on spiritual traditions as in Partocinio Barela’s Last Supper, reflections on modern art, as shown by John Sloan or Gustave Baumann, Sloan’s and Gina Knee’s comical lampoons of contemporary society, or iconic images of the West inspired by pop culture, as seen in Dunton’s “Illustration for The Fair in the Cow Country” and Billy Schenck’s pop cowboys.

Christian Waguespack, guest curator of our newest exhibit Storytellers: Narrative Art & the West will lead a tour of the exhibit providing unique insight into the art and discussing the special connection the exhibit has with New Mexico. This is a great opportunity to talk with a leading expert in the field.
