The Briscoe Western Art Museum proudly presents Aloha Vaqueros. On view through September 1, this captivating exhibition shares a little-known story of cultural exchange and cowboy tradition.
In 1832, King Kamehameha III invited three Mexican vaqueros from Alta California to tame Hawaii’s wild cattle. Their expert skills not only helped protect the island’s habitat, but also laid the foundation for Hawaii’s ranching culture, creating a rich legacy where Mexican and Hawaiian traditions blend into one unforgettable cowboy heritage.
