OCTOBER 4, 2024 â€“ JANUARY 19, 2025

This fall, the Briscoe Western Art Museum proudly presents Storytellers: Narrative Art and the West, an exhibition that opens a window into the rich history, culture, and landscapes of the Southwest. Running from October 4, 2024, to January 19, 2025, this exhibition features a diverse collection of over fifty remarkable works, including paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.

Curated from the prestigious collections of the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, the Briscoe, and private lenders, Storytellers offers an in-depth exploration of narrative art from the early twentieth century to today. Highlights include Diego Romero’s dynamic depiction of the Siege of Santa Fe, the festive spirit of the Green Corn Dance, and the stunning Southwestern landscapes captured by Walter Ufer and Victor Higgins.

This extraordinary exhibition also showcases the talents of renowned artists like Fritz Scholder, Gerald Cassidy, and Henry Balink, who bring diverse perspectives on cowboy, Native, and Spanish cultures. From the carved forms of Helen Cordero to the narrative realism of Martin Grelle and Navajo artist Ed Natiya, the exhibition celebrates the intricate tapestry of the American Southwest’s artistic heritage.

Join us at the Briscoe to celebrate and explore the profound cultural and historical significance of the Southwest through the eyes of its most talented storytellers. This collection not only brings to life the region’s traditions but also celebrates our shared heritage, offering visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the art historical narrative of the American West.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the vivid and diverse stories of the Southwest through the compelling works of its most celebrated artists.
