This venerable old woman, proud daughter of a vaquero, loyal and faithful wife of a vaquero, and loving and caring mother of vaqueros, holds a fragile rosary in her rough, rugged hands. Hands that are proof of more than 90 years of work, effort, and dedication to her family. The wrinkles on her face hold the memories of the most critical moments in her life; moments of happiness, sadness, surprise, and immense joy. Dressed in mourning for her husband and wearing a lace veil, or mantilla, on her head, Doña María gets ready to pray the afternoon rosary. The mantilla is a matter of personal devotion; in the Catholic tradition, a woman shows reverence before God and honors herself before him by veiling.

Esta venerable anciana, orgullosa hija de vaquero, leal y fiel esposa de vaquero, y amorosa y cariñosa madre de vaqueros, sostiene un frágil rosario en sus ásperas y rudas manos. Manos que son muestra de más de noventa años de trabajo, esfuerzo y dedicación a su familia.
